After returning to India after a stint at Meta, I noticed the offer letters were kind of inflated. Some companies were adding the government provisioned EPF, some went to the limit of adding even Gratuity! The complete focus was on inflating the CTC rather than on what a person gets in his/her bank account at the end of the month. Now, this money is the most important number when one goes to market asking for a loan.
I also needed to understand where I stood in the market and levels.fyi was indeed pretty good but again the focus was on TC, not monthly in-hand. AmbitionBox hides data and even that data is not very fresh as well.
I built the peer-compare component (also known as Salary Pulse) to fill in this gap. It is completely anonymous, has no login walls, and breaks down the base, bonus, and RSUs cleanly so you see the actual structural composition of an offer instead of a lumped-together estimate.
In addition to having the salaries, I used the salary data to grade companies as well. Raw percentiles (P25/Median/P75) do not tell the full story, so I added Company Scores to rate them on Pay Volatility, Equity, Get Rich, and Pay Spread. If a company's structure is heavily weighted toward unstable variables, the score flags it.
Four months in, we are at 2.6K+ data points and 250 registered users. The methodology is fully transparent and published because a salary database that will not show its work does not deserve trust.
