GestureV is a free, open-source browser-based gesture recognition system. Control your computer with hand gestures, facial expressions, and body movements using your webcam. No hardware required.
GestureV started from a simple idea: interacting with a computer shouldn't always require a keyboard and mouse. I wanted a faster, more natural way to control apps, automate actions, and navigate my PC using nothing but hand gestures and a webcam.
Building it turned out to be much more challenging than expected. The biggest hurdles were making gesture recognition feel accurate, responsive, and reliable in real-world conditions while keeping CPU usage low enough to run smoothly on everyday computers. I spent a lot of time refining the tracking, reducing false detections, improving performance, and making the interface as simple as possible.
GestureV is still growing, and this launch is just the beginning. I'm excited to hear your feedback, feature ideas, and use cases so I can continue making it better. Thanks for checking it out! ( This project has a ton of bugs I am still trying to fix them )
The idea of controlling computers with gestures has been around for years, but hardware always got in the way. What made now the right time for this to finally work well?
Ran it in the browser and was surprised it actually picked up my hand swipes without any setup. Nice that it's open source too, makes it easy to tweak for specific use cases.
honestly the fact that this runs entirely in the browser with no install or extra hardware is kind of wild, like you just open it and it works. love that it being open source means people can actually tweak it for their own needs.
Free and open source is a huge plus. One thing that would make it way more useful for me is a way to create custom gesture shortcuts that map to specific keyboard actions, so I can trigger things like opening apps or running scripts without needing to build separate profiles for each one.
The fact that this works entirely in the browser without any downloads or extra hardware is genuinely impressive. Love that it's open source too, so anyone curious can actually peek under the hood.
