ETFLens
Plain-English ETF research for Australian investors
I spent 3 years holding VAS and A200 thinking I was diversified. Turns out they share 99% of the same holdings. I was paying double fees for nothing. No tool existed that showed this in plain English for Australian investors. So I built one. ETFLens shows you what your ETFs actually own, how much they overlap, and what your fees cost in real dollars. Free to use. No ads. No fund manager payments. Built solo in Melbourne.
Hey everyone, Luke here, the maker of ETFLens.
Quick bit of context on why I built this. A couple of years ago I was sitting on a portfolio of VAS and A200, feeling pretty good about being "diversified". Then I actually looked at what I owned. Turns out both funds track basically the same 200 Australian companies. Same CBA at the top, same BHP, same Westpac. I was paying two management fees for what was essentially one investment.
I went looking for something that would have shown me this before I put money in. Nothing existed that did it in plain English for Australian investors. So I spent the last few months building ETFLens.
Best place to start is the overlap checker on the homepage. Type in any two ASX ETFs and see exactly how much they share. The fee calculator is worth a look too, it shows you what your management fees actually cost in dollars over 20 years, not just as a percentage.
Would genuinely love feedback, especially from anyone who already holds Australian ETFs. What would make this more useful for you?
