Veloceek
Instant, offline file search for Windows — with previews
Press Alt+Space anywhere, type a few letters, and matching files appear in under 25 ms — with image, video, Office, PDF and code previews. Fully offline, no account, no telemetry. Free plan forever; Pro is $9.90 once. Built solo with Rust + Tauri.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Chaoqing, a solo developer in Chengdu. I built Veloceek because I got tired of two things:
Windows Search telling me a file doesn't exist when I know it does, and opening five folders
to find one PDF.
Veloceek is a native Windows app. Hit Alt+Space anywhere, type a few letters, and results
appear as you type — under 25 ms on a ~5M-file index. Select a file and preview it in place:
images, video, audio, code, and (with Pro) Office, PDF, Markdown and archives.
A few deliberate choices:
• Fully offline. No account, no telemetry, no cloud. The index only stores names, sizes and
timestamps — contents are read only when you preview a file.
• Free plan forever. Search, the panel, filters, and image/video/audio/text previews stay free.
Pro is a one-time $9.90 for rich previews, regex/whole-word/case matching, and unlimited
favorites + saved searches. No subscription.
• 12-day Pro trial, opt-in. It never asks for a card, and when it ends the app drops to the
free plan — it doesn't lock you out.
• Small on purpose: 8.7 MB installer, no Electron, Rust + Tauri.
It's Windows-only (NTFS-specific kernel interfaces are where the speed comes from), and it's
built by one person, so feedback is genuinely useful. If you try it: what did you search for
first, and what felt missing?

Happy to answer anything about the indexing internals, pricing, or the Windows service.
A bit more on how it works, since a few people always ask:
• NTFS volumes are indexed through the USN journal (and $MFT on first build), not by walking directories. That's why a 5M-file machine indexes in about a minute and stays current. • The index is a compact in-memory array (32 bytes per file) plus an FST for prefix lookups. Non-prefix substring queries fall back to a parallel scan — same results, still tens of ms. • File sizes are filled lazily, only for the rows being displayed, so cold start doesn't stat millions of files. • An optional Windows service keeps the index fresh while the app is closed; without it, the app falls back to a normal folder scan.
Limitations I'd rather state up front: Windows only, NTFS only for the fast path, and the service needs admin rights at install time.

Who hunted Veloceek?
Veloceek was hunted by Ge Chaoqing. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
