Hi Product Hunt 👋
Vaelmere started with a simple itch: every map tool I tried had me dragging stamps onto a texture. The result looked like a map, but nothing in it had a reason to be where it was.
So I built the opposite. In Vaelmere the land answers you:
• Flick across an empty page and a coastline grows where the seeds land.
• Paint mountains and forest. Drop a spring, and the river runs downhill and finds the sea on its own.
• Put down a town and name it. It suggests names with their meanings, in your world's flavour.
• Trace a journey between two towns and it tells you the miles and the days, on foot, by horse or under sail. In the sample world, Corvane to Tarsk is 155 miles: eight days on foot.
• Export for a book interior, a poster, or VTT tiles.
It's for novelists, game masters and anyone who makes worlds for the fun of it. There's a 60-second film on the site that shows an evening with it.
A few honest things:
• It's a free beta and it's rough in places.
• Mac only for now: Apple silicon (M1 or later), macOS 12 or later.
• It's a side project, and I haven't bought an Apple Developer account. The app isn't signed, so your Mac will warn you the first time you open it. That's why the site asks for your email instead of showing a download button: it sends you the app with the exact steps to open it. No account, no newsletter.
• The app has no account and sends nothing anywhere. Your world is one file on your Mac.
