You get a message from someone claiming to be your bank, a recruiter, or a familiar brand. The username looks convincing, but something feels off. UsernameCheck gives you a place to check before you reply, send money, or open a link. Search WhatsApp and Instagram usernames, see community reports and report categories, report suspicious accounts anonymously, and share results with others. It will not make the decision for you, but it can help you pause and make a better call.

Hey Product Hunt, Naman here 👋 The idea for usernamecheck came from a shift I kept thinking about: WhatsApp is introducing usernames so people can connect without giving out their phone number. It is a meaningful privacy improvement, but it also changes how we judge whether an unfamiliar account can be trusted. A phone number gave people at least one clue to investigate. A username can look official with just one small change. I wanted to build a simple place to pause before replying, sending money, opening a link, or sharing personal information. Search the username, see if the community has reported it, and make the decision with more context. I began with a basic WhatsApp search and reporting flow. While building it, I realised search alone would not work without a useful contribution loop. So I kept reporting anonymous and quick, then added shareable results so warnings could travel beyond the site. Instagram came next because the same problem already exists there. I added report categories and risk summaries to make results easier to understand, search history for repeat checks, and a dispute path so people can challenge reports they believe are wrong. The product is intentionally simple. It does not verify identities or decide that someone is a scammer. It gives people one more community signal when they are deciding whether to trust an unfamiliar username. I am launching it here to learn what context is still missing and which platform should come next.

usernamecheck was hunted by Naman Sinha. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
