A curated directory of 2,400+ design tools, weekly updated since 2019. Version 2.0 is rebuilt from scratch with an AI search that understands your question. Connect the catalog to Claude, Cursor and other AI assistants via MCP, or get the best new tools in the free weekly newsletter.
Every few years a tool comes along that quietly rearranges how designers work. Sketch did it. Figma did it. AI is doing it right now, and the next one might be already listed. I’ve been hunting for those tools since 2019, including the small ones: the icon set, the component library, the little helper that saves you time each day. Passing them on to designers is what TOOOLS.design is for.
Seven years and 2,400+ tools later, I’m still updating the directory every week.
Today I’m sharing the biggest update since the last launch here in 2022: a complete rebuild, with a search that reads your question.
Here’s what’s new:
🔍 The Quick Search (⌘+K) on every page understands what you type. Ask it anything, from “best Figma alternatives” to “free icons that work with React”, and it answers from tools that carry real data.
🎛️ The Tool Finder filters and sorts the whole directory by that data: price, category, platform, format, what a tool works with, use cases, and more.
💬 The Tool Consultant (Beta) answers questions like “Which mockups present a mobile app design?” with picks and reasoning from the catalog. The consultant is still learning. If an answer is off, tell me here; that’s exactly what I want to hear today.
🔌 And if you work with Claude, Cursor or Codex: connect the catalog via MCP and ask your agent which design tool to use, or what’s new this week.
📬 The newsletter got a rebuild too. Every Tuesday: one “TOOOL of the Week”, four new “On the Radar” tools, and the reads, listens and news worth your time. Browse the latest issues.
