But the deeper problem was what happens *after* you read something. Passive consumption doesn't build expertise or a point of view — writing does. **Writing is thinking**: you don't actually know what you think about a story until you try to articulate it. And for professionals — especially executives and operators who are expected to have a public point of view — that's exactly the gap. Everyone tells you to **build a personal brand**, but nobody hands you the raw material or the minute it takes to turn "I read this" into "here's what I think about this." So Tech Spindle isn't just a ranked feed — it's a habit loop: read the handful of stories that actually matter today, then spin one into your own take before you close the tab. The daily ritual is the hook; turning what you read into something you've written — and can put your name on — is the point. How did your approach or process evolve while working on this? I started by earning the daily habit before asking anything else of it — if the read isn't worth the two minutes, no ritual forms. That meant building a real significance-ranking engine (impact + novelty, not recency) instead of a chronological firehose, then collapsing duplicate coverage of the same story so opening the app never felt repetitive. Once that foundation held up, I realized a good read alone still didn't solve the actual problem — reading passively doesn't build a point of view, writing does. So the focus shifted from "here's your story" to "here's your story, now write your take on it" — first as a quick spin-up on a single article, then as a persistent Draft Box people could return to. The part that changed my thinking most was personal branding specifically for executives: a generic AI-written post doesn't build anyone's brand, it just sounds like everyone else's AI-written post. So the writing tools had to be personalized — pulling from someone's own "about me" and writing preferences so what came out sounded like them, not the model. And once people were actually writing, the daily habit needed reinforcement to survive — streaks, a daily digest, small nudges to keep the loop closed — plus somewhere for that writing to actually go, which is why Community and Editorial exist: writing that never gets read doesn't build a brand either.
