Hi Product Hunt. I am the solo dev behind this one.
I kept buying a second HDMI cable because I could never remember which box the first one went into. So I built Store & Forget, a home inventory app for Android.
You toss something into any box or drawer, snap a photo, and the app fills in the name and details for you. Months later you search in plain words and it shows you the exact box or shelf it is in. No labeling system, no digging through every box.
Some honest caveats. It is Android only right now. The photo scan and the plain-words search both call a cloud AI service, so you get a few free scans and then sign in with Google to keep the free tier sustainable, or drop in your own AI key for unlimited scans. Everything you catalog lives on your device and you can start without an account.
It is early, and I would love your feedback, especially on what would make you actually keep using it. Happy to answer anything.
A nice idea would be to add the option to back up the inventory to a personal cloud like Google Drive or Dropbox as an encrypted file. It keeps the local-first feel while giving peace of mind if the phone is lost or replaced.
finally tried this and the smart scan nailed the details on a box of cables i just took a quick photo of, saved me typing it all out. local only feels great too.
local-first is such a smart move for something like this. one thing that would really help me use it long term is bulk photo capture for packing or unpacking days, like rapid fire snapping several items at once and having smart scan queue them up in the background rather than waiting on each one before snapping the next. would make cataloging a whole closet way less tedious.
Love the local-first approach and the no-account start is a nice touch. One thing that would make this a keeper for me: let me add a "where it usually lives" hint per item so Smart Scan can suggest the box or shelf before I even search, saving a tap when I have a pile of similar things.
