I'm Rabab, the solo developer behind Stepli. Thank you for checking it out!
Stepli started with my mother. I saw how frustrating everyday phone tasks could become when an app felt unfamiliar. I wanted to build something that felt like a patient person sitting beside you, guiding you one step at a time without taking control away.
One thing I'd love to share is that this isn't my original vision.
My goal was to build an AI-powered assistant that could understand any Android screen using an LLM, explain what was happening, and guide users through unfamiliar apps in real time. It would have adapted to changing interfaces instead of relying on predefined instructions.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the API access and infrastructure needed to build that version for this launch.
Rather than waiting, I decided to solve the problem with what I could build today. Stepli now uses community-driven, step-by-step guides with visual highlights, bilingual English and Urdu support, and optional voice guidance. It never taps, types, or makes decisions for users, it simply helps them learn while staying in control.
This launch is the first step toward a much bigger vision. My hope is to eventually bring AI-powered screen understanding to Stepli while keeping privacy, transparency, and user control at the center.

Honestly the bilingual thing is what caught me, since urdu support is rare. Tried it walking through a banking app and the calm overlays actually felt helpful instead of overwhelming.
One thing that would really help is adding a way for users to slow down or replay a specific step in the overlay, because sometimes the voice finishes before I can follow along on a new app.
It would be great if Stepli could let family members remotely trigger a guide on a loved one's phone, especially for elderly users who might struggle even with overlays. A simple "send help" button that pushes the right guide straight to their screen would be a lifesaver.
The Urdu overlay labels would be a huge help since translations can sometimes lose context. Maybe also add a "repeat last step" button in case someone needs to hear it again without starting over.
The Urdu voice guidance is a really thoughtful touch, and the overlay approach feels way more respectful than just automating everything for someone. Tried it on a banking app guide and the highlight cues actually made it click for me.
