Spino
Back pain, again? Sit up, or your screen dims! For Macs.
Spino dims your screen when you slouch and clears it when you sit up. Posture app for the macOS menu bar, free for 4 hours a day. Nothing leaves your Mac.
I spend most of my day at a MacBook, and by evening my back lets me know. I tried a few posture apps, but they all felt bolted on: desktop notifications I learned to ignore, extra windows to minimize, nagging I eventually switched off.
So I built Spino. It lives in the menu bar, watches your posture through the webcam and dims the screen when you slouch. Sit up and it clears. No pop-ups, no dashboards, just a nudge you can't really ignore.
A bit of background: at my day job (RealEye) we build webcam-based eye tracking, so on-device computer vision is home turf for me. Everything runs locally, nothing leaves your Mac.
Pricing: free for 4 hours of monitoring a day. If you want it all day, a lifetime license is 5€ / $6. No subscription.
This isn't my first biohacking side project (RIP my WakeTheFckUp alarm clock), so I'd love honest feedback:
After an hour of use, does the dimming feel helpful or annoying?
Does detection work well with your camera and desk setup?
screen dimming is harder to miss than another notification lol
i would want an easy pause for those moments when i am leaning in to read something small

Spino was hunted by Adam Cellary. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
