Shortsmaker
Self-hosted AI that turns long videos into viral shorts
Upload a podcast, interview or webinar and get 9:16 clips with animated captions, titles and hashtags. Self-hosted source code with users, plans, admin panel and white-label branding. One-command Docker install, your own Claude key.
I record long videos — [podcasts / interviews / talks] — and turning them into short clips was eating hours every week. The hosted tools that do it well charge monthly per seat, keep your videos on their servers and can't be rebranded. So I built my own, and then turned it into a product anyone can run.
What it does: 🎙️ Upload a long video (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM) 🧠 Claude finds and ranks the most engaging moments 🎬 Renders 9:16 clips with word-by-word animated captions and face-tracking framing ✍️ Writes titles, descriptions and hashtags for TikTok, Reels and Shorts ✂️ Lets you trim and restyle every clip, then download MP4s or a ZIP
What makes it different: 🏠 Self-hosted: one command installs it on any Linux VPS with Docker — your data stays on your server 🎨 White-label: your name, logo, colors and watermark 👥 Multi-user: open / invite-only sign-up, plans with quotas, an admin panel with AI cost tracking 💸 One-time purchase, no per-seat fees — you pay Anthropic directly for AI usage (roughly $0.10–1.00 per video with the default model)
Who it's for: agencies repurposing clients' content, creators and teams who want to own their tools, and indie hackers who want to launch their own branded clipping service.
It's not for everyone: you need a VPS and your own Anthropic API key, and it doesn't post to social networks for you (yet).
I'd love your feedback — what would you want next: direct publishing, more caption styles, B-roll, more languages?
