RentalHandover started with a very specific frustration: boat rental companies in the Netherlands and Germany still use paper forms for handover and return inspections - and when damage disputes arise, nobody has clear proof.
I built this after talking to rental operators who described the same scenario: a customer returns a boat, there's a scratch that wasn't there before, but the paper checklist from the handover is barely legible, has no photos, and the customer denies everything. Case closed, loss absorbed.
The solution seemed obvious - photos, damage markers on reference images, digital signatures with timestamp and IP, automatic PDF sent to both parties. But nothing simple and affordable existed for small to mid-sized rental businesses in Europe.
What evolved during development was the QR self-service flow - I originally built it as a "nice to have," but it turned out to be the killer feature. The rental operator just prints a QR code and attaches it to the boat. The customer scans it, does the full handover themselves, signs digitally, and both sides receive a PDF immediately. No app download required, works in any browser, in 4 languages (DE, NL, EN, FR).
