Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Zee.
Paws Off started with a very ordinary problem: cleaning my keyboard meant typing gibberish into whatever was open. Then it hit me that pet owners have the same problem, just with fur.
So Paws Off does one thing well: one click and your keyboard is paused.
🧽 Clean mode: every key is ignored (even media keys), your trackpad keeps working, and an optional timer unlocks it for you.
🐾 Away mode: lock it and walk away; type your unlock word to get back in. Pets can't spell.
🐈 Paw detection, my favourite bit: forgot to lock? If a paw lands on the keys, it locks itself before your cat's first email goes out.
🔓 It never locks you out: the keyboard comes back the moment your computer locks or sleeps.
It's free, open source, and private by design: it never stores what you type, and the only thing it sends is an update check. Mac and Windows.
One honest note: it isn't notarized by Apple yet (that's next on the roadmap), so the first launch asks you to click "Open Anyway". The one-line installer on the website skips that step.
I'd love to hear what you'd use it for, and what would make it better. 🙏
