Open Book Reader
A private reader view that turns pages like a real book
Open Book Reader turns any cluttered article into a two-page spread you flip with the arrow keys: a real page turn, paper and dark themes, and your place saved. Image-heavy pages become a clean gallery with ZIP download. Free, open source, collects nothing.
I read a lot of long articles in the browser, and it rarely feels like reading. There's a sidebar, a cookie banner, a newsletter popup, and a scrollbar that never tells you how far you've come.
Books solved this a long time ago with two facing pages, so Open Book Reader does that to any web page:
- Click the icon (or press Alt+B) and the article becomes a two-page spread. Flip with the arrow keys, with a soft paper-curl page turn. - It remembers where you stopped and picks up there next time. - Paper, light and dark themes, 2 to 4 columns on wide screens, and print or save the clean article as a PDF. - Image-heavy pages (webtoons, manga, photo threads) become a gallery instead: a masonry wall or an in-order layout, a lightbox, and download-all as a ZIP.
New this week: share the article you just read with a friend, click a picture to see it bigger, and save the article as Markdown (beta).
The part I care about most: it collects nothing. No account, no analytics, no server. The article never leaves your browser, and the whole extension is open source (MIT) so you can check that yourself.
It's free and comes in 12 languages.
I'd love to hear where it breaks. Pulling the article out of a web page is never perfect, so if a site comes out wrong, the Report button in the reader opens a short form and I'll fix that site. And tell me what would make you reach for it every day.
