Unfold iPhone Duo and Markdown becomes an open book, the hinge its spine. Native on Duo and Mac: Pages, Stack and Scroll are free. Pro, one purchase for Mac and iPhone, adds 19 paper themes, reading sets, resume reading and export to PDF, Word, EPUB and more.
Hi Product Hunt 👋 I'm Yuan, the developer of MarkRead.
More and more of what I read arrives as Markdown: READMEs, specs, notes, long AI answers. Editors are built for writing, so reading a 40-page .md meant one endless scroll. I wanted a quiet, read-only app that treats Markdown like a book.
MarkRead is a native app for Mac, iPhone and iPad, and it's made for iPhone Duo: unfold it and Markdown becomes an open book, the hinge its spine. On the inner display, two pages meet at the hinge as one sheet, and when you fold or unfold you stay on the same line. Open a .md file and read it in Pages: 1–4 columns side by side. Stack them away into a pile, or switch to Scroll in one click. Page breaks are handled carefully: headings never end a page, long code blocks break between lines, and tables repeat their header.
New in iOS 1.1.1 and Mac 1.1.0: export. Pro exports to PDF (with bookmarks and page numbers), Image (JPG), HTML, Word (DOCX) and EPUB. On Mac, right-click an H1–H3 heading and choose Export Section As to export from that heading up to the next heading of the same or higher level; File > Export As exports the whole document.
Free: reading any Markdown file, with Pages, Stack and Scroll, and export to Markdown, Plain Text (TXT), RTF, TextBundle and OPML Outline.
Pro (optional, one purchase works on both Mac and iPhone): 19 paper themes, reading sets, resuming where you left off across Mac and iPhone, and export to PDF (with bookmarks and page numbers), Image (JPG), HTML, Word (DOCX) and EPUB.
On iPhone and iPad, open files from the Files app, or send them over from other apps with Open in… or Share.
Mac is the main experience; Mac + iPhone together is the best setup.
I'd love your honest feedback: what do you read in Markdown, and what's missing?
