I built Kite because I wanted to talk to my own model — one I run on my own Mac — from my phone, and every chat app I tried assumed I'd sign up for a subscription and send my messages through someone else's server.
Kite is a chat client for iPhone, iPad and Android. Point it at any OpenAI-compatible endpoint with your own key — OpenRouter, Groq, Together, or a model running locally through Ollama or LM Studio — and it just works, no account needed.
The part I actually built it for: if you run Hermes, the open-source agent from Nous Research, Kite connects to it over your own private network (Tailscale — no port-forwarding, no exposing your agent to the internet) and brings its tools, memory and your files to your phone. You see every command it runs, you can say “Ask Kite” out loud and get an answer without opening the app, and you get a notification when a long task finishes.
