I'm Orhan, the solo maker behind Kalorita. I built this because every existing calorie tracking app I tried in Turkey was basically useless for what I actually eat.
Open YAZIO or FatSecret, snap a photo of mantı or kuru fasulye, and you'll either get nothing or "pasta with tomato sauce, 450 kcal." It's not the apps' fault — they're trained on Western food databases. But it means anyone in Turkey trying to track calories has to
manually log "lahmacun" into a database that doesn't really know what lahmacun is.
So Kalorita is built from the ground up for Turkish cuisine:
🍽️ Photo-based logging — snap your meal, AI estimates calories + macros in ~10 seconds
🇹🇷 Trained on Turkish food — simit, döner, mantı, lahmacun, kuru fasulye, and hundreds more recognized natively
🤏 Finger-next-to-plate portion estimation — AI uses your finger as a reference object for gram-level accuracy
📱 iOS only, Turkish only, for now — focused on doing one market really well before expanding

- How does the photo recognition compare to Cal AI / SnapCalorie / similar tools you've used for your local cuisine?
- Any other underserved cuisines you wish had a dedicated AI calorie tracker?
- For Turkish speakers here (I know there are some) — try the app and tell me what foods I'm missing
Honest note: it's 3 days free, then ₺150/mo or yearly. I'm not pretending it's free-forever AI inference costs money, and I'd rather charge users than sell data to advertisers.
