I built Jam Pod because I missed something very specific: scrolling through my own music library with a physical-feeling click wheel, instead of tapping through yet another algorithm-fed feed.
It's a native Android app (Kotlin + Jetpack Compose) that recreates the iPod Classic UI faithfully — the wheel gesture math, the monochrome screen, the menu scroll — as a front-end for your own local files and podcasts. No streaming service integration: your library, not a catalog someone else curates for you.
A few things I'm proud of under the hood: FLAC and AIFF playback (Android has no native AIFF support — I had to write a custom extractor for it), a sleep timer that actually fades the volume out instead of hard-cutting, and 8 themes ported pixel-for-pixel from the original iPod color lineup.

Love that this exists, the click wheel on Android feels so right. One thing I'd kill for is being able to import my old iPod's ratings and play counts directly into Jam Pod, maybe through a simple XML export import. That way the smart playlists would actually reflect my listening history instead of starting from scratch. Would make the jump from a dying Classic feel like a true upgrade rather than a fresh start.
honestly the click wheel scrolling feels so much better than i expected on a touchscreen, and loading my own flac library without any streaming nonsense is kind of a dream. looks great too
This looks fantastic, the click wheel nostalgia alone makes me want to try it. One thing I'd love to see is a simple "lock wheel" toggle that disables touch input during workouts or pocket carry, since accidental scrolls are basically inevitable when the screen is off. Could probably live right in the now-playing screen.
Love the idea and your design language! We really need less subscriptions and lean more into things how used to be. I hope to see some love shown at us IOS users as well! Since switching to Iphone this year although I have been enjoying the smoother experience overall, some of Apple's security requirements are really a pain! Like no system wide EQ balancing for music, that means no way to balance any notes from any streaming services like Spotify or Youtube Music or even Apple music. The only way to do so is through an installed app with an offline library AND an Equalizer. Not me nor anyone on Reddit has found a app which does not require a, frankly, outrageous subscription for it. If there are plans to expand under the same monetization model (one time purchase!) I'm sure a lot of us appreciate it!
This is a nice product, especially because it would allow me to listen to my favourite playlists offline. I mostly create music playlists for different moods on @Suno and then download them onto my devices because I never can trust the internet to always be on my side. Lol. Congrats @gianpaolo_campolion the launch. What customization options are available right now? Skins? UI?
