Turns one ride or a whole trip into a short film from the GPS track, photos and clips you already have. Your track draws itself across a tilted map, each photo appears where you took it, and clips play where they were shot. Pick rides from Strava or bring Garmin FIT and GPX files. Several days merge into one film, rest days included. Fix a wrong camera clock once and every shot from it moves. Out comes an MP4, 9:16 or 16:9, assembled and encoded on your iPhone, Android phone or Mac.
Hi, I'm Herbert. I ride multi-day bikepacking trips, and I kept getting home with the same pile: photos on my phone, clips from an action cam and a drone, and a Garmin track nobody was ever going to scroll through.
A slideshow loses the days I care about most, the long ones where I was too tired to stop for pictures. The track is the one thing that recorded all of those hours, so How It Went builds the film from the route. Your track draws itself across a tilted map, each photo shows up where you took it, and clips play where they were shot. Distance, elevation gain and the passes you crossed come along as captions.
Two parts were harder than they look:
1. Camera clocks. An action cam that was never set to local time puts your lunch stop in the wrong valley. You fix the clock once per camera and every shot from it moves together. 2. Rendering on the device. Flutter paints every frame offscreen and hands it to the platform's own encoder (AVAssetWriter on Apple, MediaCodec on Android). The render happens on your phone or Mac rather than on a server, so the film is ready the evening you get in.
The whole film is free on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, from your own files and at every export size. Version 2.0.0 came out today with Premium on top: five more map looks, a photos-first layout, a soundtrack style you pick and an opening on a photo or clip of your own. Pay once or yearly, and try it free for a week first. It was built for riding, and the words in the film still say "ridden". If you hike, ski or paddle, I'd like to hear how your film comes out.
Good idea. Output can be more appealing, and sharable to social media like Insta, Tiktok etc.
Do I need a GPS track, or can it build the film from my iPhone photos' locations alone?

How It Went was hunted by Herbert Poul. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
