Grocery Elf
Your fridge knows what's for dinner — Grocery Elf tells you.
Manage your pantry inventory, discover recipes based on available ingredients, and plan meals efficiently. Track expiration dates, reduce food waste, and never run out of essentials.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Josh, the solo dev behind Grocery Elf.
I built this because I kept buying groceries, staring at a full fridge at 5:30pm, and still ordering takeout. The problem wasn't recipes — the internet has infinite recipes. The problem was that every meal planning app starts from a recipe and asks what do you need to buy? Nobody starts from what do you already have?
So I flipped it.
Grocery Elf starts with your pantry. You log what's in your kitchen, and the app tells you what you can cook right now, builds your shopping list from the actual gaps, and flags what's about to expire before it ends up in the trash.
A few things I'm proud of:
- "What Can I Cook Now" — one tap, real results based on your pantry, not a fantasy recipe box
- AI meal recommendations that learn your preferences
- Recipe import from any URL, screenshot, or even a photo of a printed recipe card
- Cook Mode — a clean, step-by-step interface that keeps your screen on while you're cooking
- Family sharing — up to 5 people, one shared pantry and shopping list
Honest warning: the App Store is a brutal place to be a solo indie dev, and I've learned more about ASO in the last several days than in years of software development.
If you cook at home, buy groceries, or feel guilty about throwing food away — this is for you.
Happy to answer anything — especially the "why didn't you just use [other app]" questions. 😄

Grocery Elf was hunted by Josh Romanelli. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
