Hi Product Hunt! I built GravelCalc to make planning gravel projects easier.
Gravel is often sold by weight or volume, while project areas are measured in length, width, and depth. GravelCalc connects those measurements and provides an instant estimate for tons, cubic yards, waste allowance, and project cost.
It supports common projects including driveways, paths, landscaping, French drains, pea gravel areas, and paver bases. You can also switch between US and metric units or enter a supplier-specific material density.
I’d love to hear what additional materials or project shapes would make the calculator more useful.
Love how clean the input fields are, with the waste allowance and local pricing right alongside the dimensions. Most calculators make you dig through menus for that stuff.
Tried it for a backyard French drain and it gave me a volume number that matched what my gravel supplier quoted almost exactly, which honestly surprised me. The local pricing field is a nice touch since most calculators ignore that part.
Love how clean the input fields are, with the waste allowance slider right next to depth and pricing. Makes it feel like a real tool instead of a generic calculator.
Finally a gravel calculator that doesn't make you guess how much waste to add, and the cost-per-ton tied to your zip code is a really nice touch. Saved me from ordering way too much for my French drain.
Would love to see a visual diagram or sketch feature where I can plot the shape of the area instead of just entering dimensions, since most of my projects aren't perfect rectangles and it throws off the estimates.
