Google is rolling out a new experiment in Search Labs called Audio Overview, and it looks like they've learned a lot from the popular features in NotebookLM. Turning an active search into consumable audio content is a really smart move.
The feature uses Gemini models to generate a short, conversational audio summary for certain search queries. It gives you a quick lay of the land on a topic hands-free. What's also neat is that it displays helpful web links right within the audio player, so you can easily dive deeper if something catches your ear.
It's a clear win-win: users get a convenient, hands-free way to absorb information, and Google naturally increases engagement time on the search results page. This is an interesting evolution for search.
