I'm Louai, founder of General Data. I've spent a long time on both sides of data deals, buying data to train AI and selling it, and the experience was the same from either seat. Deals ran on cold emails, spreadsheets and one-off contracts, samples were passed around on file-sharing links, and nobody could say with confidence who owned the data or whether it could legally be used. Most deals took months, and plenty never closed at all.
At the same time, data has become one of the most valuable things a company owns. The next generation of AI needs records of real work that only exist inside real companies, and most of that knowledge stays locked away because licensing it feels too risky.
