Coming from Windows? Floating Finder puts a Windows Explorer-style editable address bar on real Finder windows — and inside other apps' Open/Save dialogs, where Finder's own Path Bar never appears. Plus two-pane tiling with one-click copy/move. Doesn't replace Finder.
I built Floating Finder because Finder never gets any easier to use — and I couldn't fully escape it.
My daily setup routes file work through Commander One and Raycast, keeping Finder off to the side as much as possible. Both are genuinely excellent tools, no complaints there. The complaint is Finder itself.
But even with that setup, two things kept getting through:
You can't route around all of it. Finder — or the standard Open/Save dialog — still turns up in places neither app can reach, and you're stuck using it.
Windows pile up on their own. Finder opens them at moments you didn't ask for. Invisible most of the time, since app switching runs through Raycast — but the second I hit ⌘-Tab, there they all are.
So this isn't trying to replace apps like Commander One or Raycast—those should absolutely stay in your workflow. It's aimed at the one problem neither of them can route around: Finder itself.
What it does
An editable address bar on every Finder window — Windows Explorer-style. Type a path, hit Enter. No more hunting for Go to Folder.
The same bar inside other apps' Open and Save dialogs — where Finder's own Path Bar never appears.
Two-pane tiling — two Finder windows side by side, with one-click copy/move between them.

If you already know this space: Default Folder X is a fantastic tool, and as far as I know, it’s the only other app that reaches into Open/Save dialogs the way this does. But since Commander One and Raycast already handle most of my setup, I didn't need a full feature suite — I just needed to fill that one missing gap. Floating Finder is built for exactly that: just a typeable, Windows-Explorer-style bar in both Finder windows and those dialogs.
