FinanceKeys
Excel-style shortcuts and full-colour tabs for Google Sheets
Most Sheets shortcut tools ask you to learn new keys. FinanceKeys uses the Excel ribbon sequences finance people already know: Alt/Option + H for borders, accounting and currency formats, paste values, AutoFit, fill colour and format painter. It also turns Sheets’ thin tab lines into full-colour tabs with a highlighted active tab, so large models are easy to navigate. Built for FP&A and modelling, it runs in your browser and never collects spreadsheet data.
I’m Nick, a finance professional and the maker of FinanceKeys.
When I moved from a company using Excel to one using Google Sheets, my muscle memory stopped working. Alt + H shortcuts did nothing, and tab colours were a thin line that was hard to see in a 20-tab model. So I built FinanceKeys, a Chrome extension that brings the Excel workflow into Google Sheets:
⌨️ Excel-style shortcuts: Alt/Option + H sequences for borders, number formats (accounting, currency, %, decimals), paste special (values, formulas, formatting, transposed), AutoFit, fill colour and format painter
🎨 Full-colour sheet tabs: the whole tab fills with colour, and the active tab has a gradient
It’s built for FP&A, accountants, analysts, bankers and anyone who models in Sheets. It works on Mac and Windows.
I’d love you to try it on a real model and tell me:
- Which Excel shortcut you miss most that isn’t there yet
- Anything that doesn’t work as you expect
