ExtraMile has been around for a while. Life got in the way and I stepped away from it for a few years. When I came back, the programming world had completely changed. AI coding agents were everywhere. Everyone was Vibe coding the apps. Is it even worth to keep maintaining a 14 year old app? I was skeptical at first, this is my app, my code, years of work. But I tried it anyway.
Turns out use of AI for coding is remarkable — if you use it right.
I didn't let it touch my location engine. That's the heart of ExtraMile, something I'd spent years perfecting. But for everything else? It became my co-pilot. I stay in the driver's seat — keeping an eye on what it's doing, course-correcting when it drifts — but the pace of progress went from a crawl to a sprint.
ExtraMile already had good bones and all the essential features. Here's what I improved with AI help:
