dmsg
Private messaging built on peer-to-peer technology
dmsg is an Android messenger designed around encrypted communication, cryptographic identities and direct peer-to-peer connections where possible. Share messages and files without requiring a phone number, with encrypted offline delivery and recovery support.
Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I'm the developer behind dmsg, built with Seekware Private Limited in India.
The idea started with a question: can we build a usable mobile messenger that relies less on centralized message transport?
We spent months solving challenges around peer discovery, NAT traversal, intermittent connectivity, background attachment transfers and secure offline delivery.
Today, dmsg is available on Android.
It supports encrypted chats, direct P2P communication where possible, cryptographic identities without phone numbers, encrypted file sharing and backup/recovery functionality.
The current architecture still relies on supporting infrastructure for discovery and offline storage. Our longer-term goal is to reduce that dependency further.
We're early, and there are plenty of things to improve.
I'd especially appreciate feedback on first-time setup, connection reliability, usability and privacy expectations.
Thanks for checking it out!

Who hunted dmsg?
dmsg was hunted by Shikhar Srivastava. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
