I'm Jafar, the creator of Chrome Appearance Switcher.
Like many developers and night owls, I frequently switch between light and dark environments. While dozens of extensions invert or style web page contents, **none of them can change Chrome's actual browser chrome** (the tab strip, omnibox address bar, and bookmarks toolbar) due to Google's Manifest V3 sandbox restrictions. You usually have to dig into `chrome://settings/appearance` every time.
I built **Chrome Appearance Switcher** to make this seamless:
1. When Chrome is set to "Device" theme, it mirrors the OS application theme.
2. The extension uses Chrome's official Native Messaging API to securely dispatch `WM_SETTINGCHANGE` notifications in Windows.
3. Chrome receives the event and repaints its active window frame instantly — zero browser restart needed.
To make setup effortless, the extension features a built-in **System Diagnostics Suite** that can generate and run a 1-click self-contained installer right from the browser.
It is 100% open source under MIT, requires no account, and collects zero telemetry or analytics.
