I'm the maker behind CalHomeAid. I wanted to share a bit of the story behind why I built this.
A days ago I posted on Reddit as a single father with two kids, desperately looking for affordable housing in Orange County. Like many people in the same situation, every organization I called just sent me the same giant PDF — the official OC Affordable Housing List. It's useful, but honestly awful to navigate, especially when you're stressed and searching from your phone at night.
So I decided to turn that PDF into something actually usable.
CalHomeAid is a clean, searchable, filterable version of the Orange County affordable housing directory. Completely free! You can search by name or address, filter by city, housing type, bedrooms, status — and get phone numbers right away in a mobile-friendly format.
I'm still looking for housing myself, but I wanted to make the process a little less painful for anyone else going through the same thing.
