BookSense
Book recommendations from a friend who's read everything.
I've rated 900+ books and written nearly a hundred reviews on Goodreads, and its recommendations were still generic. All that data, and it kept suggesting whatever was popular. I wanted a tool that actually grok'd my reading preferences and make recs prsonalized for me, so I built BookSense.
Here's how it works:
💬 Open any book and say what you loved about it: the story, the writing, the setting, the characters, or your own words ("the slow pace and the sea"). You get 4 picks, each with a short reason it fits what you said
📚 Or type one or more books you loved and blend them into one search
🔎 Ask AI anything about a book, author or genre: who's who, what you missed, where to start, with a "No spoilers" switch (chat needs a Google sign-in)
📥 Import your Goodreads shelves and ratings for picks tuned to your actual taste, and mark books "Not for me" so it learns what you don't like
✅ Every pick is checked against Open Library, so you get real books, not made-up titles
🌍 Works in English, Spanish and French
It's free, there are no ads, and you can search without signing up. If you buy through the Amazon button I earn a small commission, and that's the whole business model for now.
If your Goodreads recommendations have felt as generic as mine did, import your shelves and tell me how the picks compare. Or drop a book you loved in the comments, and why, and I'll share what BookSense suggests!

BookSense was hunted by Josh Paul. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
