Every time we scroll through short-form content, the brain gets a quick dopamine hit. New video — spike. Another one — another spike. The brain gets used to this rhythm and starts demanding more and more.
But dopamine isn't infinite. After extended scrolling comes the dopamine pit — dopamine levels drop below normal. In this state, any activity that doesn't provide instant reward feels unbearable. Including reading.
I noticed this in myself. I close the feed — open a book. Read a paragraph, understand nothing. Re-read it. Still nothing. Close the book. The brain simply can't function in this mode after a dopamine rollercoaster.
So I thought: what if I give the brain its familiar rhythm, but fill it with something real? Break a book into short fragments — each new fragment is a small reward for the brain. You scroll like a feed, but you're reading literature.
