As a church musician, I got tired of paying subscription fees for every little music tool. I just wanted a reliable metronome that could: - Store unlimited songs and set lists - Sync privately across my devices - Stay accurate during live performances - Not nickle-and-dime me every month So I built BeatClikr for myself and wanted to share it with the world. It's the tool I wish existed.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋

I'm Ben, a church musician and mobile software engineer who built this because I was fed up with subscription fees for basic music tools.

The Problem: The top metronome apps either charge a monthly subscription or gate essential features like playlists behind paywalls. I just needed a reliable tool for my Sunday morning set lists. Since I'm a mobile dev by day, so I built the tool I wanted with the skills I already had.

BeatClikr is completely free, with every feature unlocked. Unlimited playlists, iCloud sync, tap tempo, multiple groove patterns, easy live use. Everything you'd expect from a professional tool, without the monthly tax. Because it uses iCloud/CloudKit syncing YOUR data is private. I never see anything, and I've posted the source to GitHub to prove it.

For iOS and Mac, with an Android version in the works. Android can't use iCloud so I need a different persistent store with backup. So it'll use Room with auto backups enabled for device transfer persistence.

Why Free? I built this for myself first. I use it every week at church with our worship team, both in rehearsals and on Sunday services. If it's useful to other musicians, that's reward enough. I'm so tired of paying subscriptions and I have to think you are, too.

If version 3.2.0 is still the latest on the App Store, it only has one playlist. Hopefully by the time this launches on May 4 Apple will have approved my update, so you can have unlimited multiple ones!

What's Next? I'm thinking about adding:
- Accent patterns (strong/weak beats)
- Time signature presets beyond 4/4
- Practice history with streaks
- Apple Watch companion

Would love to hear what features matter most to you!

Comment highlights

The iOS version with multiple playlists is live on the app store! Unfortunately Apple still has not reviewed the macOS version, so that one still has just one playlist, but hopefully in the next couple days it'll be good to go.
