Anki Capture
Turn selected text into Anki cards with your own AI CLI
Select a word or phrase on your Mac, press a shortcut, and send an AI-generated card to Anki. Use your own Codex, Claude Code, or Gemini CLI and chosen model. Set explanation and interface languages separately; preview ambiguous terms. Open source. Apple Silicon/macOS 14+ preview, not Apple-notarized yet. Requires Anki, AnkiConnect, and a supported AI CLI.
Hi! I made Anki Capture to make vocabulary capture less of a detour while reading.
The workflow is small: select a word or phrase → press ⌃⌥⌘A → preview the generated card or send it to your chosen Anki deck.
It calls the official Codex, Claude Code, or Gemini CLI installed on your Mac, using your existing account and chosen model. The interface and explanation languages are separate: you can use an English interface while getting Chinese explanations for English or Japanese vocabulary. Ambiguous terms wait for confirmation, and you can create decks and subdecks without leaving the app.
This is an early, open-source preview for Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 14+. It needs Anki Desktop, AnkiConnect, and a supported AI CLI. The download is not Apple-notarized yet. AI generation uses your CLI provider account; it isn't offline inference.
I'd love feedback from people who make cards while reading: what should a useful vocabulary card include, and what should it leave out?
