VoxThermic

A private journaling app that runs entirely on your Mac

VoxThermic is a macOS journaling app that helps you discover patterns in your thoughts over time. It uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models and Natural Language framework to analyze journal entries locally, so your private journal never leaves your Mac. You can type or simply ramble out loud using built-in voice transcription, and everything works offline.

Hi everyone, I'm the solo developer behind VoxThermic. The idea came from my own journaling habits. I realized that while journaling helped me process things, it couldn't always easily answer questions like "how have I actually been doing over the past several days" or "do I keep getting fixated over the same problems?" I started looking for a journaling app that could analyze this sort of thing, but I couldn't find anything like that for MacOS. At the same time, I'd been experimenting with Apple's on-device Foundation Models and Natural Language frameworks, and I figured I could build it myself. Now, from the beginning, personally I felt pretty strongly about privacy. I think it's a bad idea to upload private journal entries to some kind of cloud AI service. So, everything here uses Apple's on-device models and frameworks. Everything stays on your Mac, and the app can work offline if you want it to. Another thing I really wanted was voice journaling. I personally find it easier to journal by talking through things out loud rather than typing, so I added voice transcription features early on. Whether you like talking or typing, I made sure the app could handle both well. At some point I also added the weather theme because, well, it looked a little too clinical without it. Comparing mood to weather might seem a little silly, but personally I thought it made it look more inviting. The app is free to use. Optional premium features, including AI summaries and PDF exports, are available through a subscription with a 3-day free trial. While this was built because I wanted specific features in a journaling app for myself, I really hope it comes in handy for other people too. Thanks for checking it out!
