Weftwake
Write what you do. The world writes back, and remembers.
A text adventure that writes itself as you play. Write what your character does; an AI narrator writes what happens, and the world remembers every name, place and promise. Overnight, your story dreams and draws a noir plate. 40 turns free.
I grew up playing classic text adventures on classic computers, always loved them! I also love writing, it is part of my job and career, I'm a teacher and a researcher. So, I find text adventures as lots of fun, promoting creativity, the imagination, and thinking in general.
Now, the introduction of LLMs are a huge deal, but often, AI chats say "yes" to everything, forget names and promises after a while, and nothing you do really costs anything. So, in using AI to build (co-build) this game, I was thinking of the following:
- Weftwake remembers. Every name, place and fact your lines make true stays true. A journal keeps your threads, places and a map of where you've been.
- The world pushes back at you, the writer. People can refuse, bargain and even lie, and things have a price (or not).
- Stories have stakes and endings. Each chapter asks a question and closes earned, at a price, or lost. A finished story leaves its woven cloth. At the same time, stories don't have to have chapters and well-defined sections, the game can be played as a free canvas with no set ending - except when the writer wants it to.
- It keeps going while you sleep. Overnight your story "dreams": it gathers what happened, brings back a thread you forgot, and draws a one-of-a-kind noir plate (Why Nois? I'm a bit fan of the aesthetic, but other plate aesthetics can be added later).
- You can cut in any time: start typing and the narrator stops where you stopped reading.
- Five ways to read it: a manuscript, a silent film, a blue print, a night newspaper and an amber terminal.
Your stories are private and never used to train AI. It's for adults (18+). The first 40 turns are free, no card needed. The first 200 Patrons pay $4.99 a month for their first year, then $7.99.
I'd love your most honest feedback: where it surprised you, what doesn't work and feels boring, broken?
