After one too many trips where Google Translate gave me the right words but the wrong context (ordered the wrong dish, used the wrong greeting, missed a custom that mattered), I started building what I actually needed: a travel companion that handles the parts a translator doesn't.

Why this not Google Translate: Google translates words. WanderVox tells you what the words mean in context — that the menu item is normally extremely spicy, that this greeting is too formal for a market stall, that the local custom is to leave shoes outside.
