Vigil – Stay Awake
One-click dead-simple sleep prevention tool for your Mac
Most sleep prevention tools give you thirty features when all you needed was one click. Vigil is that one click. Just a lightweight menu bar toggle with two sleep prevention modes using native macOS power assertions. No bloat, no subscriptions, open source, and free.
I am not crazy, I know there are tons of such apps (even a native CLI tool), but here is the thing: I wanted a dead-simple one, with no fluff, no tracking, no gazillion options, etc. I wanted something I can easily turn on and off - one click - that just reliably works. So I built myself one. And later, I decided to publish it on the App Store because I think there might be other folks who prefer simple tools like this.
My main use cases are:
1. Presentations/Demos – no sudden screensavers
2. Any long-running terminal stuff – I activate Vigil, and I am calm
3. Remote sessions with Claude – I turn off the display, and my Mac mini keeps running my sessions.
