Hey, I'm Michael and I created Trombonest.
I've been using my Quest 3 since launch day and decided I would make Trombonest as my first VR app.
I've enjoyed experimenting with the UX involved in creating an instrument that's dynamic and hand-held. Other VR instruments I've seen before tend to be more static like piano and drums.
Trombonest lets you play the Trombone with visual guidance to know what note you're playing. Beginners can play with Auto Pitch so your notes aren't flat.
I've also added a system that allows you to play notes in a specific major scale, so you can jam and not have to worry about music theory at the same time.
I tend to play with Passthrough on with my Quest 3, but some of my friends with Quest 2's prefer to play in VR mode since Quest 2 has a black and white passthrough. YMMV.
In the future I plan to add the ability to play sheet music with interactive guidance like other music apps such as PianoVision and Guitar Hero. I also think it will be awesome to be able to jam virtally with your friends with different virtual and real instruments.
But that's the future. Today, Trombonest is an instrument and you'll enjoy it most if you enjoy self-directed learning and are interested in trying something new and possibly still a little rough around the edges.

Who hunted Trombonest?
Trombonest was hunted by Michael Norris. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
