TraceVid

AI search for exact clips in your local video library.

TraceVid is a local-first desktop app for creators who need to find exact moments in old video footage. Unlike cloud-first archive tools or generic AI chat apps, it starts with retrieval: import videos from local folders, NAS-backed archives, or supported URLs, search by transcript and visual content, recover exact clips, then ask AI about selected video evidence instead of starting from a blank prompt.

Hi Product Hunt! TraceVid came from a pretty simple frustration: having hours of old footage, remembering that a great moment exists somewhere, and then wasting a ton of time trying to find it again. We noticed that a lot of tools go in one of two directions. They either assume you want a cloud-first media system, or they focus on AI without really solving the retrieval problem. We wanted to start with search first. TraceVid lets you import videos from local folders, NAS-backed archives, or supported URLs, search by transcript and visual content, recover the exact clip, and then ask AI about the moments you actually picked. Our goal is to make existing video archives genuinely reusable again, without forcing creators to move everything into the cloud first. Happy to answer questions, and also curious how other people here deal with searching old footage today.
