Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I built Tab Discarder to solve a problem I kept running into with my old MacBook Air. I’m someone who always has way too many tabs open. I’ll be working on something, switch to another task, but leave the previous tabs open because I know I’ll come back to them. Honestly, those open tabs are also little reminders of things I still need to finish. The problem? My old MacBook Air couldn’t keep up. Chrome would start lagging, and accidentally closing and reopening the browser with 20+ tabs felt like asking my laptop to run a marathon. I didn’t want to close my tabs, and I didn’t want Chrome deciding when to unload them either. I just wanted a simple way to free up memory whenever I needed to. That’s how Tab Discarder started. The goal was to keep it as simple as possible: open the extension, choose which tabs or tab groups to discard, and free up memory with a click. Your tabs stay right where they are and reload when you return. As I built it, I added a few things I personally needed, like protecting pinned tabs, tabs playing audio, and important websites from being discarded. No complicated setup, no automatic tab management, no tracking. Just a lightweight tool that does one thing well. I built it for myself, but figured there are probably others out there with too many tabs and not enough RAM. I’d love to hear how you manage your tabs. Are you someone who closes everything, or do you keep 30 tabs open because you might need them someday? 😅 Thanks for checking out Tab Discarder!
