**The Problem & Inspiration:**
I was deeply frustrated by the current landscape of personal finance apps. You either have to hand over your bank login credentials to third-party aggregators (like Plaid) which constantly disconnect and share your data, or you're stuck manually entering every single purchase in a spreadsheet. I wanted intelligent automation without compromising my privacy. Furthermore, tracking spending is only half the battle; knowing if your investments are actually well-diversified is usually locked behind expensive financial advisors.
**The Solution:**
SpendKeep bridges this gap. It's an automated, AI-driven personal finance tracker that works entirely off your bank's SMS alerts and forwarded transaction emails. We use lightning-fast LLMs (Llama 3 via Groq) to parse and categorize your financial data in seconds—zero bank sync required.
**How the approach evolved:**
Initially, SpendKeep was just going to be an expense tracker. But as I built it, I realized that understanding *how* your saved money is performing is just as important as knowing how you spent it. So, I built in an institutional-grade Portfolio Analyzer. It uses Modern Portfolio Theory to calculate your Sharpe ratio, risk contribution, and concentration (HHI) for your mutual funds and stocks. It wraps all that complex math into an easy-to-understand AI health verdict and even serves you the latest news on your specific holdings.
