Snit Scanner
Drag a photo through a virtual scanner. Make glitch art.
snitscanner recreates the analog trick of moving a photo across a flatbed scanner mid-scan. A scanline sweeps while you drag, zoom and rotate in real time, so the effect is performed, not a preset. Xerox mode adds crushed blacks and copier grain, and stacking modes layer scan on top of scan like re-feeding a photocopier. Free, no signup, runs entirely in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device. Export as high-res PNG.
Hi Product Hunt!
When I was younger I made prints for my bands and zines on old flatbed scanners and xerox machines. At some point I figured out you could drag and move the artwork while the machine was still scanning, and the image would smear and stretch in this beautiful, unpredictable way. I was hooked. Half the fun was that you could not fully control it. You performed the print, and the machine decided the rest.
But most people never get to try this, because who has an old scanner or copier lying around anymore? So I built one in the browser.
A scanline sweeps across the bed, and you drag, zoom and rotate your photo while it runs. I also added things the real machines never had: a xerox mode with crushed blacks and grain, and stacking modes where each new scan layers on top of the last one instead of replacing it. That one is my favorite, you can re-scan the same print over and over until it turns into something really wild.
Everything runs locally in your browser. Your photo is never uploaded anywhere, and it is free with no signup.
I would love to see what you make with it, and I am happy to answer anything!
