Hi everyone, I'm Kyrylo, a solo iOS developer in Kyiv. I built Silex because I watched someone close to me go through a gambling problem, and at the time there wasn't much I could actually do. When I started reading about how betting apps are designed (the near-misses, losses dressed up as wins, live odds every few minutes) it was clear it isn't a fair fight. It's one person's willpower against a building full of people paid to keep them betting. So Silex tries to even that out: • It blocks gambling across the whole iPhone, every app and every browser, not just Safari. It also walks you through self-exclusion and a bank gambling block, the two layers you can't undo at 1am. • A 90-day program, about five minutes a day, built from CBT material for gambling disorder. • An SOS button for the worst minute: rate the urge, breathe, ride it out. • It counts the money you kept, not the days you white-knuckled. • A slip never resets you to zero. Two rules I didn't break: 1. Nothing in the app spins, and nothing is random. No mystery rewards, no near-misses. A quit-gambling app shouldn't run on slot-machine psychology. 2. No account, no ads, and nothing you write leaves your phone. There's a Face ID lock and a discreet mode, so nothing on your lock screen says what the app is for. Crisis helplines are free whether or not you pay. The program and blocking are a subscription with a free trial. It's not treatment and doesn't pretend to be. Every source is listed at trysilex.com/methodology I'd really value honest feedback, especially from anyone who has quit gambling or helped someone who has: what would actually have helped in the first week?
