Why I built it
I spend a big part of my day replying to messages across chat, email and review threads. Every reply meant copying the thread into an AI chat, explaining the context, then pasting the answer back. Shotback removes all of that: you select the conversation on screen, and a draft appears next to it.
How it works
- Press ⌃⌘R and drag over any conversation. Shotback reads the screen, so it works with every app – Slack-style chats, email, GitHub, support tools, anything you can see.
- Pick a tone (polite, casual, friendly, professional) and a length, optionally say what you want ("politely decline", "ask for a deadline"), and click Generate.
- Edit the draft, right-click a word for synonyms, copy, done. Replies come back in the language of the conversation.
Privacy
The selected area is sent over an encrypted connection to generate the reply and is never stored. No account, no tracking, no analytics. It's a menu bar app and stays out of your way.
Pricing
Free to download from the Mac App Store, and the first 5 replies are free with no subscription, so you can try it on your real conversations right away. After that, Shotback Pro is $6.99/month with a 7-day free trial. macOS 14 or later.
