We built ScoreLayer after helping my kids' football club stream their games. The video looked great, but the scoreboard/scorebus I was able to find were either super-clunky (Excel-hell) or pricier than we were comfortable with.
So I created the tool we needed (we use OBS) and refined it until it looked good: a single transparent browser source, which can be controlled by anyone with a phone.
What surprised me building it is how different each sport is and how much time was needed to get things right in a live setting. A soccer clock counts up with added time; American football needs down & distance and possession; basketball has team fouls and a bonus indicator. So rather than one generic overlay, every sport gets controls and a scorebug built around how that game actually plays. It's now running on real streams from flag-football championships to grassroots clubs.
We also realized that, depending on how many people you have available, not all streams can have all the information, so we made it easy to disable parts of the scorebug (E.g. running the clock for american football needs a dedicated person to do it properly).
