Hi, Product Hunt!

I'm the developer behind FormaCode.dev, and today I'd like to introduce Pulse - a Chrome extension for recording audio directly from browser tabs.

Why Another Tab Audio Recorder?

Before starting development, I spent time reading reviews of similar extensions in the Chrome Web Store. I wanted to understand not only what users liked, but also what was missing, what problems they encountered while recording, and what features they were asking developers to add.

Based on that feedback, I decided to create Pulse - an extension that does more than just record audio. It addresses the shortcomings of existing solutions and eliminates unnecessary steps for users.

Less unwanted audio, less editing afterward

Imagine you're recording a lecture or podcast on YouTube. You pause the video to take a break, but the recorder keeps capturing silence. Later, you have to open an audio editor and remove those unnecessary sections.

With Pulse, I've tried to automate situations like these:

  • Sound-triggered recording. You can configure Pulse to start recording only when audio begins playing in the tab.

  • Playback-synced pause. When you pause a video or audio player (for example, on YouTube), Pulse automatically pauses the recording and resumes it when playback continues.

  • Automatic stopping. When a video or audio track ends, Pulse can automatically stop recording without adding unnecessary silence.

  • Smart pause. Extended periods of silence can be automatically excluded from recordings.

The result is an audio file that requires significantly less editing afterward.

Reliability for long recordings

Another problem I noticed was losing hours of recorded audio because the browser unexpectedly closed or the computer crashed.

That's why I paid particular attention to keeping recordings safe. Pulse saves audio data continuously while recording, rather than waiting until the recording is finished. Even if the browser unexpectedly closes or the computer shuts down, the audio already captured remains safe.

There are no artificial recording time limits. You can capture long lectures, webinars, live streams, and other content.

Multiple tabs, multiple formats, no background noise

Pulse captures audio directly from the browser, not through your microphone. That means conversations in your room, fan noise, and other surrounding sounds won't end up in your recordings.

You don't even have to listen while recording — you can mute the tab's audio output without affecting the recording.

You can record multiple tabs simultaneously, with each recording saved separately.

Pulse supports MP3 (up to 320 kbps), WAV, and WebM. All recordings stay on your computer — no audio is uploaded to our servers.

Free version and Pulse Pro

I want Pulse to remain useful even without purchasing a license.

The free version lets you record audio from one tab without time limits, choose your preferred format, recover recordings after crashes, and use essential recording controls.

Pulse Pro adds simultaneous recording from multiple tabs, advanced automation, smart pause, and other features.

Special launch offer

To celebrate the launch of Pulse, I'm giving away 1,000 free lifetime Pulse Pro licenses to the first users who activate the extension.

A lifetime license unlocks all Pro features with no subscription or future payments.

The number of free licenses is limited - this offer is available only for the first 1,000 activations.

If you'd like to get Pulse Pro free for life, activate your license while the offer is still available.

Your support matters

Pulse is an independent project that I'm continuing to develop. Many of its features were inspired by requests from users of other extensions, and I plan to keep taking that approach as the project evolves.

If you enjoy using Pulse, I'd appreciate your support here on Product Hunt and a review in the Chrome Web Store. It will help more people discover Pulse and support its continued development.
