ProtocolProbe
The MCP registry checks once. We checked again.
ProtocolProbe checks MCP servers against what they claim — every fact with its source and the date we checked it.
Hi Product Hunt 👋
I'm the maker of ProtocolProbe. MCP servers are how AI assistants like Claude, Cursor and VS Code connect to tools, and the official MCP registry now lists 38,977 of them. The registry checks a package once, when it's published, and never again. So I checked them all.
What I found in the registry snapshot (2026-10-04):
• ~15% of servers with a GitHub link point at a repo that doesn't exist or is private
• 157 list a package version that can't be installed
• 459 active entries declare no way to run them at all
What you get, free and with no account:
🔎 A page for every server: facts with their source and the date we checked them, ready config for your client, and one-click "Add to Cursor" where nothing needs filling in.
💻 npx protocolprobe-discover: see which MCP servers are configured on your machine and which are in the registry. It works offline and never prints your keys.
🛠️ npx protocolprobe-selftest: run our checks on your own server, on your machine or in CI (it writes SARIF for GitHub).
What we don't do: rate servers as "safe", or call anyone else's server's tools. The score you see counts only checks that ran.
I'd love your feedback. What would you want to know about a server before you install it? 🙏
