Pixel-Pets
AI-coded, world-aware virtual pet ecosystem
A father-son hobby project bridging retro nostalgia with modern tech. Pixel-Pets features a multi-device ecosystem (Muffin, Goo-Goo, Pip) with real-time weather sync and AI-assisted firmware. 100% of the code was written by AI (Claude) under our direction. Includes offline voice control, camera features, and an ESP-NOW treat-thrower accessory.
I'm Marcel, CIO at JAM Software. I'm excited to share a personal hobby project I built with my 10-year-old son, Justus: Pixel-Pets.
We wanted to see how far we could push AI-assisted coding in the embedded world. 100% of the firmware was written by Claude Opus 4.7 under our guidance. Justus acted as the Product Owner and Chief Designer, while Claude functioned as his "coding mentor" for C++.
Highlights:
Edge-AI & Local LLM: The "Muffin" variant runs a Local LLM directly on the M5Stack CoreS3—no cloud, 100% private.
World-Aware: Pets pull real weather and moon phases via IP geolocation to reflect the real world on their screens.
Hardware Ecosystem: Works on CoreS3, Core2, and StickC PLUS2.
Use the "Pip" accessory to "throw" treats wirelessly between devices.
It’s 100% Open Source. Justus is closely monitoring the GitHub stars today—if you like what we’ve built, a star would absolutely make his day!
We're here all day to answer your questions about AI-mentorship, M5Stack, or Edge-AI!

Who hunted Pixel-Pets?
Pixel-Pets was hunted by Marcel Dütscher. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
