PaperPilot
Zero-upload, memory-safe, pure-Rust PDF engine & toolkit
PaperPilot is an open-source, privacy-first PDF engine built in memory-safe Rust. It runs 100% locally via WebAssembly in your browser and native desktop—zero bytes ever leave your machine. Features: • Split, merge, compress, watermark, crop & encrypt • Visual multi-step pipeline builder • Embeddable JS automation widget • Native MCP server for AI agents • 100% free and open-source under MIT
Like many developers, lawyers, and founders, I was tired of uploading confidential PDFs to random online conversion sites just to do basic tasks like compress a file, split pages, or apply a Bates stamp. Every upload is a potential data privacy risk, and traditional desktop PDF suites are bloated, slow, and expensive.
I built PaperPilot to solve this: a high-performance PDF engine written in pure Rust that compiles directly to WebAssembly and native desktop binaries.
Because it runs entirely on client-side compute, your files never touch a cloud server. It is completely memory-safe, offline-ready, and executes operations in milliseconds.
We've also built in advanced developer features: • A visual multi-step pipeline runner
